A new report outlines the reasoning behind Casemiro’s decision to announce his departure from Manchester United five months before his contract expires.
Casemiro leaves United
On Thursday evening, United announced that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season.
Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022. United paid £70 million to land the five-time Champions League winner.
He played 146 games for the Red Devils and scored no fewer than 21 goals in that period. This number includes the opening strike in the 2023 Carabao Cup final over Newcastle, when Erik ten Hag’s United finished third in the Premier League in his first season.
Casemiro also helped United win the FA Cup, beating Manchester City in the final.
There was uncertainty surrounding his future as he navigated the final year of his contract. It was suggested that United were open to extending his tenure, although he would have had to accept significantly lower wages. A report from The Peoples Person suggested that the Brazilian could trigger the 12-month extension by starting a certain number of games this season.
However, in a statement, Casemiro said he is moving on, convinced that now is the right time to go.
According to the Manchester Evening NewsAfter being informed by United some time ago that his future lay elsewhere, Casemiro decided to make an early announcement to put an end to transfer rumors.
Why Casemiro announced this early
MEN explains: “United made the decision some time ago that the 33-year-old’s contract would not be renewed or renewed and informed Casemiro of the situation.”
“But as speculation over his future gathered pace in recent weeks, he asked the club to make their plans public to bring ‘external clarity’ to the situation, a source said.”
“Casemiro was keen to avoid incorrect speculation that the club would offer a new contract or activate an option.”
The report states that by acting early, Casemiro and his team now have sufficient time to carefully plan his next move.
He was previously linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, while a return to his native Brazil was also mooted.
