Earlier this week, a group of students at the Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ) – affiliated with the University of Delhi (DU) – appealed to the director of the Institute to offer more facilities and to match the “exorbitant” reimbursements that are charged by the college.
In response to the students’ requests, the director – Professor Bharati Gore – reportedly threatened students. “Joote se Peetungi, Stay Stop (I will hit you with my shoe, stay still),” the professor could hear in an alleged video, which circulates on social media.
However, Gore has denied the allegations.

When did the incident happen?
The incident took place on Tuesday (April 1), when several students started to meet Gore around 2 p.m. and protested against the lack of infrastructure and academic activities on campus despite high costs.
According to the latest cost structure that is available on the DSJ website, the annual reimbursement for first-year students of the five-year integrated program in Journalism (FYIPJ) and Master of Journalism (MJ) RS 79,820 is.
For the following years of FYIPJ and the second year of MJ, the RS is 69,620.

Who is Prof. dr. Gore?
Prof. Gore was appointed director of DSJ in January of this year for a period of a year after the retirement of the previous director, Professor JP Dubey. Gore has BA, MA and PhD degrees and had started her career in education in 2001 with a Stint at Shivaji University, Kolhapur. She also taught at the University of Pune and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad. She had become a member of Professor at Delhi University last year.

Gore has denied all allegations against her. “The students first misunderstood, in response to which I asked them not to do this. They mislead people with a one -sided story,” Gore told the Indian Express.
The students have since apologized to the authorities and “the case is closed,” she said.

What do the students say?
Students from the DSJ have denied that they are apologies. They have claimed that there are no computer labs, library facilities, WiFi facility in the basement and air conditioning. “DSJ management is non-cooperative … There is no transparency in funds assigned to society and events,” a student told the publication.
