Is it a cardinal sin to sneak in a sports stream during a social event?

New research commissioned by Kayo Sports suggests not!

The research commissioned by Anouconcept, which was conducted online by Think HQ in November 2025, showed that:

• 74% of Australian sports fans admit to streaming sports during a social event.
• 67% think it should be socially acceptable to take out their phone for a score check during an event.
• Victoria takes the cake: Victorians are officially the most likely to eschew social etiquette and stream sport on their phone at a social event.
• Queenslanders confess: they’re the best ‘scoring sneakers’ in the country. Although not as bold as Victorians, you’ll likely see them sneaking out of rooms for a discreet score check.

FOX Cricket expert and Kayo Sports ambassador Adam Gilchrist said: “There’s no Australian summer without cricket and we saw record crowds for the first Test in Perth. To think anyone would have missed Mitchell Starc’s first over or Travis Head’s century, which was one of the best in the history of the game, is almost criminal. You don’t want to seem rude, but you just don’t want to miss anything.”

“I think this is the only valid reason to miss The ash Nowadays it’s common to lose your phone. If you’re getting married or hosting an event this summer, I think more than a few people will have their Kayo Sports app open under the table.”
