ReutersAlmost everyone aboard an Air India flight on their way to London Gatwick Airport who crashed shortly after taking off in West India, the airline confirmed.
There were 242 passengers and crew on board the plane, including 169 Indian subjects, 53 British, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian.
Civil servants said rather that some local people would also have died, given the populated area of Ahmedabad where the plane came down.

Details are still on the rise, but these are the people who have been confirmed by the BBC to have died so far.
Family HandoutThree of the British nationals thought they had died in the incident were a family who lived in Gloucester.
Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee and their daughter Sara Nanabawa were all on board the flight.
A statement from Gloucester Muslim Society said that his “most sincere and deepest condolences” took place.
“No words can really alleviate the pain of such an in -depth loss, but we pray that the family can find comfort in the enormous outpouring of compassion and solidarity of communities around the world.
“May their cherished memories offer comfort, and they can rest in eternal peace.”
Adam and Hasina Taju, and their son -in -law Altafhusen Patel
Adam Taju, 72, and his wife Hasina, 70, flew back from Ahmedabad with their 51-year-old son-in-law, Altafhusen Patel. All three lived in London.
The granddaughter of the couple, Amaarah Taju, spoke about her shock and disbelief with her parents in Blackburn.
She said that her father, Altaf Taju, had driven to London to be with his sister when they received updates about the crash from Air India and government officials.
Fiongal and Jamie GreenLaw-Meek
Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, a married British couple, ran a spiritual wellness center in London.
They placed on Instagram earlier on Thursday and said they were about to board the flight from Ahmedabad Airport.
In the video they were seen laughing and jokes about their journey to India.
Ajay Kumar Ramesh was fleeing, sitting next to his brother, the British surviving passenger Vishwashkumar Ramesh.
His cousin, Ajay Valgi, told the BBC that Vishwashkumar Ramesh had called his family to say that he was “good”, but he did not know his brother’s place of residence.

RUPII served as the main minister of the West India State of 2016-21.
He was a member of the ruling BJP party.
Singson was a member of the cabin crew on board Air India Flight 171, Family said.
Outside the civil hospital in Ahmedabad, her cousin, T. T. Thanglingo Haokip, the BBC that he tried to get information about her, but was not successful.
He added that Singson had a mother and brother who was “completely dependent on her” because she “was the only breadwinner” in her family.
