Not in my house! Rep. Stacey Plaskett Schools Schools Treasury Secretary about interrupting during a hearing

The American rep. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI) took the time to remind treasury secretary Scott Bessent that she is not like her other colleagues and will not be interrupted during a hearing of a house committee.

The tense exchange took place on 11 June when Bessent was grilled about a number of things related to the economic status of America. When Plaskett noted how the stock market has fallen since President Donald Trump took over the Oval Office, the Minister of Finance interrupted statements that her report was “incorrect” – but he did not learn to do it again. “Let me get something here first. I saw you interrupt everyone,” said Plaskett.

“If you come to someone’s house, you respect their rules, and in this house we do not interrupt individuals and you will not interrupt my time.”

While Bessent seemed to take her attitude as a joke, his glasses cleaned while she reprimanded him, Plaskett gave him some advice about what he could do in the meantime. “I’m going to give you the time to respond. Maybe you want to note some notes about things you don’t agree on, so that you can respond to it at that moment,” she continued.

“But although I speak as the person holding this time, you won’t speak, sir, until I am done, and then I will give you time to speak, okay?”

Bessent replied and said, “I’m looking forward to the facts.”
