‘Who are the danger bowlers?’ – Ex-South Africa captain concerned about India’s dependence on Jasprit Bumrah | CricTracker

Jasprit Bumrah has been spearheading India’s bowling attack of late T20 World Cup 2026 and has shouldered the burden of delivering the goods with the ball. While the batting unit has faced huge setbacks, it is the bowlers who have not been exposed to challenging conditions so far, which former South African cricketer Faf du Plessis says is a sign of concern.

Du Plessis, who has played a lot of T20 cricket in India, believes the Indian team is too dependent on Bumrah and wants other bowlers to also step up. In fact, the cricketer-turned-commentator believes that no other pacer has been as effective as Bumrah for the Suryakumar Yadav-led team in the ongoing tournament.

‘Just look [India’s bowling options] and ask, ‘Who are the danger bowlers?’ Usually it is Jasprit Bumrah. You make that decision on the day – if you can beat someone else early, then the sixth bowling option will have to come. If that happens, and Shivam Dube bowls with wide yorkers or defenses, you can line him up,” du Plessis said via ESPNcricinfo.

“The team they had planned before the World Cup and where they are now feels very different from a role perspective. Initially, the top three were going to be left-handed, and now you have Sanju Samson coming from five. Possibly to the top. You have Tilak potentially going to five. There is a lot of movement in terms of role-playing, and if you look at the teams that are doing well, it is a very fixed batting line-up.” du Plessis added.

Notably, India had successfully defended their 256-4 against Zimbabwe in the Super Eights match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Thursday. The Indian bowlers restricted the Chevrons to just 184, led by Arshdeep Singh‘s three-wicket haul. They now need to beat West Indies in a virtual quarter-final at the Eden Gardens on March 1 to qualify for the semi-finals.
