The White Sox announced on Wednesday that they have recovered Lefty Martin Perez of the 60-day injured list. Triple-A Lefty Jared Shuster was designated for allocation to erase a place on the schedule of 40 men. Expand Angry It was chosen to open Triple-A to open a place on the active schedule.
Perez has been out since April 18 because of a flexor voltage. He threw pretty well through his first four starts (3.15 ERA in 20 innings) but was not healthy enough to develop into a potential commercial deadline chip, because the reconstruction of White Sox probably hoped when he signed a one-year contract in the winter, $ 5 mm.
Perez threw a combined 6 2/3 innings over a few minor league rehabilitation and will now at least get the chance to eat some innings for the SOX in the play – all while he is looking for his health for interested clubs in low season. The Perez deal contains a mutual option, but this is more than a decade since both ends of a mutual option were exercised by both team and player. He is almost certainly a free agent in November.
Shuster, 27, was a first round pick from the Braves in 2020 (no. 25 General). He came to the south side via the Aaron Bummer Swap 2023 -a deal that delivered the SOX Five players, but was more a volume game in which Chicago took several former top perspectives in the hope of turning a few of them. It is not exhausted. Braden Shewmake, Michael Soroka and Nicky Lopez are all loose. With Shuster now designated for assignment and perhaps on the way to the door, the 25-year-old Righty Riley Gowens is the most promising remnant of that return. He has placed a 4.05 ERA via 100 innings in his second passage at the double A level and is not in the 30 best prospects of the system.
In his two seasons with the Chisox, Shuster 51 made performances – except six of them from the Bullpen – and threw a combined 89 innings with a 4,96 run average. He has only fueled 16.9% of his opponents and submitted a running speed of 9.4%. Both, in particular the strikeout percentage, are worse than the League average.
Shuster has been up and down this season. Between his frequent commuting from Chicago to Charlotte (where the SOX ‘plays triple-a club) and a 15-day IL-Stint because of blisters on his pitching hand, he has only thrown 22 1/3 innings in Triple-A and 15 1/3 frames in the Majors. His Minor League work this year is also matte, according to an ERA of 6.04. The strikeout percentage of 19.8% of Shuster and 6.6% running speed in Charlotte are at least moderately encouraging than his MLB-rate statistics, but he has also thrown on average two gay people per nine innings in Triple-A this year.
Shuster will no longer have a minor league options next year, so he was always a long shot to stay on the Roster in the camp next year. With the Trade Deadline behind us, he will be placed remotely within five days. Shuster has not been downright in the past and has not three years of MLB service, so if he remains unclaimed, he will stay with Charlotte with the White Sox through an outright assignment.
