The White Sox announced that they claimed outfielder Derek Hill From distance from the Marlins. The last club appointed him for assignment a few days ago. He will take the active schedule of colleague -outfielder Mike TauchmanWho has reached the 10-day wounded list with a right knee meniscus tear. The schedule of 40 men had a vacancy but is now full. The club also remembered right -handed Jonathan Cannon and placed right Wikelman González on the 15-day IL because of a judge elbow decision.
It is unclear when Tauchman hurt his knee, but he has not played since Saturday. He tells Scott -Personage from MLB.com that he will undergo surgery on Tuesday and expect a similar timeline Austin Slaterwho also undergo meniscus operation earlier this year. Slater was operated on mid -April and was restored to the IL a little more than a month later. If Tauchman follows a similar timeline, he should be able to have a normal low season.
The SOX will have to decide whether they will offer him an arbitration contract for 2026. His 2025 campaign was reasonable. He came in 93 games for the SOX and went to the album 385 times. His strike output of 22.3% was around the competition average, but his running speed of 11.7% was quite strong. He cut .263/.356/.400 for a 115 WRC+, indicating that it was 15% better than the competition average on the plate. In combination with solid outfield defense, according to Fangraphs, he was worth 1,4 victories over replacement.
He would be a wage increase for this year’s $ 1.95 mm salary. The SOX may be willing to bump that, but they may also prefer to keep some playing time open for younger players. In that case he would not be sent this winter.
