When we travel by plane…: Ajit Pawar’s 2024 tweet resurfaces after Baramati crash

Maharashtra deputy chief Ajit Pawar died after a plane he was traveling in crashed while attempting to land in Baramati on Wednesday. Following his untimely death, his 2024 tweet about air travel has resurfaced.

“When we travel by helicopter or plane and our plane or helicopter lands smoothly, we understand that the pilot is a woman,” Pawar had said in a tweet to emphasize on NCP’s women empowerment.

Two years later, Pawar and four others died in a plane crash. The pilots on board were Captain Sumit Kapoor, who had 16,000 hours of flying experience, and Sambhavi Pathak.

VSR Aviation’s top official VK Singh said both pilots were based in Delhi and had logged extensive flying hours.

“To the best of our knowledge, the aircraft was absolutely fit for purpose. There was no technical defect. It was very well maintained,” Singh told the media.

He said preliminary information suggested poor visibility may have played a role in the crash.

“First of all, it appears there was no visibility. The pilot approached the runway, executed a missed approach and then made another attempt. If a pilot cannot see the runway, he will execute a missed approach,” he said.

Singh added that Captain Kapoor had more than 16,000 flying hours while the co-pilot had about 1,500 hours.
