Carlos Alcaraz is confronted with a challenging road in his pursuit of a second US Open Crown, but when is the world number 2 launching its campaign?
Fresh from winning his eighth ATP Masters 1000-crown in Cincinnati, Alcaraz will be confronted with a large serving American Reilly Opelka in his first round of the last major of the season. Their match closes the night session on Monday in New York, after Venus Williams Clash with Karolina Muchova who starts at 7 p.m. Local Time (Edt).
The second placed Alcaraz, who conquered his first major trophy in the US Open in 2022, leads the lower half of the draw. The quarter of the 22-year-old Spaniard includes the recent Toronto winner Ben Shelton, the 2021 US Open Champion Daniil Medvedev and 2022 Second Casper Ruud.
In the semi-final, Alcaraz could be confronted with a potential collision with four-time winner Novak Djokovic, who leads their Lexus ATP Head2head series 5-3. The Serbian starts on Sunday against student ten.
Alcaraz arrives in Flushing Meadows with a Tour leading 54 victories and six titles in 2025, according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, including three victories in the championship at rival Jannik Sinner, in Rome, Roland Garros and Cincinnati.
After he had fallen against a shock of the second round for Botic van de Zandschulp in New York last year, Alcaraz will hope to return to winning ways, while he is also strengthened his push no. 1 by Pif Honors.
Alcaraz leads Sinner with 1,890 points in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin on the way to the US Open. Both players have already qualified for the seasonal Nitto ATP final.
