Brooks Kopeka and the rivalry of Bryson Dechambeau have cooled since they went through to Liv Golf. The two major champions even played together as teammates in the confrontation against Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler last December.
But only because the rivalry is not active does not mean that the two see the eye to everything.
Brooks Koepka-Bryson Deschambeau Rivalry
The contemptuous relationship began in 2019 when the two were linked together in Dubai and Decchambeau’s pace of the game pulled the anger of the notorious fast Koepka. Then, in 2020, shared hooks over physique during the bulk era of Dechambeau. In 2021, the notorious Eyeroll from Koepka was released at the PGA championship of 2021, which led to a summer fans of Dechambeau, who reached a head at the monument.
But when they both left for Liv in 2022, the rivalry was crushed and each did their best to ensure that there was no bad blood.
“We have taken a long way. Go to Liv, to be honest, I think that was a big moment for us, right?” Koepka said about Deschambeau in December. “We were forced – well, I don’t want to say – but we communicated much more, our conversation became much more open. From there I am the first person to allow me to be a bit stubborn.
“We are all getting older, we all mature a bit, and then you realize, Hey, Bryson is a good guy“Said Koepka.” I think he is seriously misunderstood, and I think the world is starting to see who Bryson Deschambeau is, which is cool. I am the first person to admit it: I was wrong with what my original thoughts were. ‘
Bryson’s strange match -Play decision
Deschambeau and Koepka have become strange bedmates, but they are still not entirely on the same page, as was clear on Friday in Liv Michigan, the team championship, at the Cardinal in St. John’s.
After both Deschambeau’s Crushers GC and the Smash GC van Koepka won their first round matchups, Depchambeau, as a captain, had the opportunity to first put himself against Koepka on Saturday. Instead, he chose to first put Anirban Lahiri out and chose to become second against Talor Mooch.
The decision bewildered Koepka.
“I don’t know what the thinking was behind it,” said Koepka. “I would probably say people would like to see that. I don’t know what he was afraid of. I don’t know. He beats his own drum. He is a strange cat.”
Asked why he did not choose himself to face Koepka in the semi -final of Saturday, DeChambeau grinned.
“I have my reasons,” said Decchambeau.
The decision of Dechambeau, regardless of the reason, paid off his fruit on Saturday when he defeated Gooch 1, while Paul Casey and Charles Howell III Graeme McDowell and Jason Kokrak struck. Koepka defeated Lahiri 1, but it wasn’t enough to continue Smash to the final.
After beating Gooch, DeChambeau revealed a little more about his decision not to take on Koepka.
“Talor plays some good wave, really good wave, and I felt that job would be great for Brooks today,” said Dephambeau. “Look, I could have risen against him. Brooks is a great hunter, and I would like to have played against him. But I felt that Talor would be a more difficult force from a matchup perspective today. He shot 6-year today.
“He is a grinder and a hunter, and I know he is a Vechtler. Hat is finished for jug for his game. It’s hard to play against him. He is a great counter, a great putter. I was definitely scared all day.”
The crusers of Decchambeau will meet Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII and Louis Oosthuizen’s Stinger GC in the final of the stroke on Sunday.
