When a hurricane is a disaster

When a hurricane is a disaster

I go on record and admit that my sense of fashion is equal to a blind person who is wearing gloves. I am not concerned with the current trends, I have no idea what fits well together, and I do not understand how there is a whole industry that determines what is in it and what there is when it comes to clothing. What I can tell you is that I feel that there is a clear lack of fashion feeling in the hockey world when it comes to Jersey designs, and today’s unveiling was nothing less than a disaster in my modest view.

The Carolina Hurricanes chose to roll out their new road uniforms for the 2025-26 season and beyond. This is what they look like.

Before I take the microscope to this new road sweater that will wear the hurricanes, it should be noted that the design is based on their Stadium series Jersey worn in 2023. That sweater was black and red, but the logo on the front is almost identical in its two -tone version and the sleeve line is also comparable. To be honest, this entire unveiling of the road sweater feels completely unnecessary because there was no need for the hurricanes to change this sweater. Cash grab, anyone?

If there is a good thing that we can get from this new road kit, it is the fact that the “hiking sticks” Jersey is Germothball. As you may know, I despise the use of team nicknames on sweaters for the simple reason that this is not the actual branding of the team. Yes, the hurricanes are popularly called the “walking sticks”, but that has never been in their brand strategy, nor is it how the team refers to itself in a professional way. Dumping that closed through the eyes was long too late, but replacing the new sweaters above lets me reconsider my whole position on those “walking sticks” sweaters as an option.

I feel that Tom Dundon, who has dropped a part of $ 4 billion on the trail blazers of Portland, has come up with this plan, where this sweater is nothing more than a way to repair that spent money. People will say: “Teebz, it is pretty clear that this was in the making before he bought the NBA team”, but we don’t really know when the negotiations to buy the prailblazers started. We only know that Dundon had a provisional deal to buy the team in mid -August. If the negotiations started months before, this idea would take action in New Jersey to sell more merchandise the burden of spending that money all. By the way, Dundon has never been shy to make money.

That all raises the question why the hurricanes could not go to them Original road uniforms that match the rest of the uniform set. There is absolutely nothing wrong with those road sweaters outside “We can’t see a million more units, sir.” If that is the only thing you keep when choosing a professional -looking sweater, you probably do Jerseys wrong. I even know that you are.

In that article from 2019 I said: “It is in the owner’s playbook to rebrand his team when he likes it. After all, he owns everything, from the logo to the Jerseys to the screaming,” so if this is what Tom Dundon wants for his team, he must live with it. However, I will also remind everyone that I have killed that article with these words: “The hurricanes go and do something unspeakably at the highest level of professional sports by making their franchise look like a promotion evening for a minor league”. It seems that they want that label because these sweaters look like they wear white exercise about another shirt. NHL Hockey deserves an NHL logo, and those who are worn above by the players are the Walmart version of the Hurricanes logo.

This disaster of a road sweater that the hurricanes have eliminated today should only be worn as a practice jersey. The stormy logo on the sleeve is terrible – which other team carries their mascot as a logo? – And the aesthetics of this sweater is just terrible. The hurricanes started with Solid sweaters in 1998But they continue to add stupid things to their cupboards, including Black Jerseys” Nickname sweatersAnd now this disaster. At some point the hurricanes must take on a professional appearance, right? Like these minor league things have to end, right?

All strength for the world goes out to Tom Dundon for owning an NHL team. That is an expensive company, so I doubt that he will listen to me and my opinion about hockey. Heck, I will even reveal that I have a Red Hurricanes sweater, so you know that I like the hurricanes to a certain extent. By saying that, however, there is a chance of zero degrees that one of these new road sweaters will ever land in my closet.

Until next time, keep your sticks on the ice!
