WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new security feature that will allow users to protect their accounts with a special password. With this, Meta’s instant messaging platform hopes to add an extra layer of security to the verification system. According to information from the most recent beta update for Android, the messaging platform is testing an option that will allow users to set an alphanumeric account password directly from the app settings.

According to WaBetaInfo, the password must be six to twenty characters long and contain at least one letter and one number. This feature remains optional, allowing users to enable it if they need extra protection.
Once activated, the password is required after entering the standard six-digit verification code at login. WhatsApp will first ask for the two-step PIN from users who have enabled two-step verification before asking them for the newly created account password.
The feature is currently in development and is expected to be released in a future update. If widely adopted, it can improve account security, especially in cases of SIM swap fraud or unauthorized login attempts.

In the meantime, the company is working on a feature that will allow users to schedule messages. Once introduced, users can select a specific date and time for a message to be sent automatically. According to the report, scheduled messages will appear in a separate section of the chat information so users can view or delete them before they are delivered.
In addition, the company is working on a new spoiler format for messages on Android and iOS. Allows users to hide text in a message and then tap it to reveal the content. It is intended to prevent unintentional spoilers in conversations.
