Alexander Blockx and Rafael Jodar were among the players who advanced to the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open on Tuesday and continued their strong rise.
Both Blockx and Jodar took part in the Next Gen ATP Finals, presented by PIF in Jeddah, last month. The 20-year-old Blockx, who won the 2023 Australian Open boys title, defeated Marco Cecchinato 6-3, 6-4 in Melbourne to extend his winning streak at all levels to six matches.
The Belgian broke the Top 100 on Monday after his victory in the Canberra Challenger, where he defeated Jodar in the final. Jodar, who spent two years at the University of Virginia before turning pro last month, defeated Australian wildcard Li Tu 6-2, 6-1.

Elsewhere in qualifying, 17-year-old Cruz Hewitt, son of former PIF ATP Rankings No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, fell 6-3, 6-3 to three-time Challenger champion Michael Zheng. Mackenzie McDonald, who defeated Rafael Nadal at the 2023 Australian Open, eased past Dmitry Popko 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-5.
Federico Cina, 18, is aiming to reach the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2026 and started his season with an impressive 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-3 over former world number 31 Lloyd Harris.
Leandro Riedi also made progress, beating 11th seed Jan Choinski 6-3, 6-4. Riedi’s victory marked another positive step in his return after undergoing two operations in the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The Swiss reached the fourth round at the US Open last year as world number 435.
