Bernard Tomic, Dino Prizmic and Rei Sakamoto were among the players who recorded victories in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open on Monday.

Australian Tomic has reached the third round of the main draw three times and is aiming to play in the main draw of the Major for the first time since 2021. The former number 17 player in the PIF ATP Rankings defeated Hugo Dellien 6-3, 6-3.

Prizmic played at the Next Gen ATP Finals presented by PIF last month and was impressive on his return to action, beating Argentina’s Genaro Alberto Olivieri 6-1, 6-4. Prizmic won a set against record 10-time champion Novak Djokovic at the AO in 2024. #NextGenATP Japanese star Sakamoto also advanced, beating Daniel Evans 6-1, 6-2. The 19-year-old is trying to make his main draw debut.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who won the 2019 Australian Open doubles title with Nicolas Mahut, started his qualifying bid with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Dutchman Guy Den Ouden, while Dusan Lajovic battled past Facundo Diaz Acosta 7-6(3), 5-7, 7-6(10-3). The 35-year-old Serbian Lajovic reached the fourth round in 2021.

Americans Brandon Holt, Tristan Boyer and Colton Smith all advanced. Holt defeated Lukas Neumayer 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, Boyer defeated Alex Barrena 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-2 and Smith defeated Luka Pavlovic 7-6(4), 6-1.
