This weekend’s Premier League calendar produced some interesting results, adding to the idea that the English top flight is never boring.
Unexpected wins, poor form arrested, points for building momentum.
They all featured on matchday 10 and there were risers and shakers in the division, with clubs swapping places in the table and that’s before Monday Night Football even gets underway later in the evening.
So we join FootballBlog took a closer look at the weekend’s action and picked out some interesting takeaways, keeping fans tuning in for Match of the Day.
Liverpool are back to winning ways
Mo Salah’s stats have fallen for Liverpool this season, but the Egyptian came to the fore on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds have in fact struggled for form this season and sit third in the division. Although they had started the match day in seventh place.
Arne Slot’s side had lost five of their most recent six games and the Dutch manager knew his players had to improve massively or risk leaders Arsenal running away from their foes.
Salah opened the scoring for his side before Ryan Gravenberch doubled the lead over Aston Villa.
Ultimately, it was an impressive performance from Liverpool, who had sixteen shots on target.
Villa have been in good form in recent months despite a poor start to the season, and Liverpool can take pride in beating an in-form team.
Erling Haaland steals the show again
Manchester City took all three points with a win over Bournemouth to head above the Cherries in the top flight.
Andoni Iraola’s players have seriously overachieved in the league so far and were always prepared to give City their money’s worth at the Etihad regardless.
It was superstar Haaland who opened the scoring with a smooth finish after good touch and his pace showed.
Tyler Adams equalized, perhaps unsurprisingly, but Haaland continued to break records with a second goal as he rounded Djordje Petrovic to end the first half.

Nico O’Reilly completed the scoring after the break as the Citizens moved back into second place.
Haaland was the hero of the afternoon, taking his season tally to 17 goals from 13 games in all competitions.
Manchester United stall
Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United had improved in recent weeks with three straight wins and appeared to have turned a corner after an average start.
But their desire for a fourth-place finish was ended by Nottingham Forest, who hosted an entertaining, action-packed afternoon.
Sean Dyche has given Forest a boost since arriving at the City Ground but continued to curse the officials when a corner was awarded with the ball not yet out of play.
Casemiro scored from the set-piece.
Morgan Gibbs-White leveled before Nicolo Savona put the hosts ahead, but a late strike from Amad Diallo secured a point for the Red Devils.
It may not have been a victory for United, but it keeps them eighth in the table and second behind City’s top clubs.
West Ham stuns Newcastle United
Nuno Espirito Santo has tried to put West Ham on the table after being brought in to steady the ship following the departure of Graham Potter.
It’s been a tough start for the Portuguese, but Saturday’s result – a 3-1 win over Newcastle – really put a cat under the Magpies.
Eddie Howe’s side have not been at their best so far this season and this latest defeat was a particularly poor result.
The Hammers, meanwhile, picked up their second win of the season, fueled by a comeback following Jacob Murphy’s early strike in Newcastle.
Lucas Paqueta equalized in his own goal before goals from Sven Botman and Tomas Soucek ensured that the Irons took the three points.
It wasn’t a victory that lifted the Irons out of the relegation zone, but it was one that will certainly boost confidence at the London Stadium as they look to build momentum for Nuno.
Fulham piles on Wolves’ pain
Wolves are in serious danger of relegation having started the year without a league win.
Manager Vitor Pereira signed a new contract earlier this summer, but that turned out to be a wrong decision by the management, who fired the boss after another defeat.
It was Fulham who demolished their opponents with goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Harry Wilson and an og from Yerson Mosquera.
Marco Silva’s team moved up to 14th, while Wolves drifted further behind their biggest rivals in the division, four behind Forest in 19th and five behind West Ham.
Things might get away from Wolves if they don’t improve dramatically and quickly.
