The clip, which has gone viral on social media platform X, shows Salah walking up to absent supporters and apparently saying goodbye.
Although the headlines focused on his verbal attack on the club’s hierarchy, this silent gesture provides the emotional context that confirms that his subsequent comments were not a snapshot, but a calculated one.
Mohamed Salah may have said goodbye to the away fans
The video, uploaded by matchgoer Chloe Bloxam, was filmed immediately after the final whistle.
As his teammates trudged off the pitch in disappointment at Leeds’ late equalizer, Salah, who had been an unused substitute for the entire 90 minutes, made a point of walking towards the section where the traveling Liverpool support were sitting.
The footage shows Salah alone, staring at the other side. He raises both hands in a long, deliberate wave.
Unlike the usual applause players give to fans after a match, this gesture seemed noticeably somber and persistent. He not only acknowledged their support; he seemed to enjoy it.
Fans on social media quickly noticed the significance. “That’s not a ‘thanks for coming’ wave, that’s a ‘thanks for everything’ wave,” one user commented.
The body language, which is slow, deliberate and emotional, fits in perfectly with the bombshell he dropped minutes later, claiming he was being “thrown under the bus” and that his relationship with manager Arne Slot has gone to zero. He also stated that there is someone at the club who is trying to force him out.
The footage shows that Salah, standing in front of the fans, had already accepted that his time at the club was coming to an early end.

Could the game against Brighton be his last game for Liverpool?
The viral footage adds a grim finality to Salah’s specific comments about Liverpool’s next match.
During his interview he explicitly said: ‘I called my mother yesterday… I said to her: ‘Come to the Brighton match, it doesn’t matter if I play or not.’ The match will be at Anfield, so it will be my farewell before I go to the Africa Cup of Nations. We’ll see what happens.”
The timeline makes this increasingly likely. Liverpool play Brighton at Anfield next weekend, the last match before Salah leaves for the AFCON on December 15.
With the January transfer window opening while he is away on international duty, and reports circulating about it Liverpool are “furious” and demand an apologythe match against Brighton is becoming his swan song.
If the hierarchy decides to cash in on him in January, or if the relationship with Slot is deemed irreparable, Salah may never wear the red shirt again after next Saturday.
The wave at Elland Road could well go down in history as the moment when reality set in: the reign of the Egyptian king is over.
