Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are currently in conversation with the president of the best Spanish club Getafe about what is projected as a staged takeover.
FSG has investigated the possibilities with regard to the purchase of at least one football club for more than a year, which has led them to assess a number of markets.
After a failed offer for struggling the French side Bordeaux last summer, the American owners focused their focus on Spain.
FSG has opened conversations with Angel Torres, owner and president of Laliga Side Getafe, about a staged takeover that could be worth £ 100 million.
Athletics Reports that this will be delivered with Torres, the 73-year-old who has owned the club since 2002, would like to supervise the completion of his new stadium project by 2028.
“I gave my word to my family. The day that the construction is completed and the stadium is inaugurated, I will leave,” said the Spanish businessman about the project.
“I will try to find a replacement first, so that I can leave it in good hands. I am not going to leave it to everyone; it will be difficult.”
FSG could possibly falter their investment, first as minority shareholders before they eventually take over the ownership, to match with Torres’ long -term plans.
The owners of Liverpool would explore the purchase of Getafe for the first time last month, with Spanish newspaper Marking After the breakdown of a movement, their interest reveal to take over the Segunda Division side Malaga.
Levante, Elche, Espanyol and Real Valladolid have also been analyzed for their suitability as part of FSG’s plans for a multi-club setup.
A number of factors will be considered, including the structure that is already present at every club, the scope for expansion and its suitability as a kind of sister club to Liverpool.
In an assessment of the landscape for TBR Football Last month, journalist Adam Williams claimed that Levante would be seen as the third choice of FSG behind Malaga and Getafe.
Williams even suggested that a deal had already been reached with Getafe President Torres, who is not outside the rich possibilities -albeit with takeover negotiations that are not exactly comparable to the transfer of a player.
Although every purchase of another club, or even more, would not have a direct influence on Liverpool, it could certainly be seen as a bonus because FSG could sign players to, for example, test Getafe before he makes the step to Anfield.
It can also be useful when signing foreign talents under the age of 18 – no longer permitted in the Premier League – or who are currently not eligible for a British work permit.
Over the years, Liverpool has held informal partnerships with a number of clubs, but never as part of a modern multi-club model under the same property.
Getafe finished 13th in last season’s Spanish top flight and is managed by Jose Bordalas.
