Years of his days in Nike and collaborating with Mike Taylor in the oven, Patrick still credit the legendary club designer to show what the possibilities are with golf clubs.
Taylor was Nike’s Master Wedge and Iron Crafttsman, in particular the irons of Tiger Woods who formed for years.
In this week of Golf’s episode fully equipped, thought about his time to work with Taylor at Nike and called it an “incredible” and “eye -opening” experience that showed him what can be done about a golf club.
“Be in Houston, you know, when I was with Nike and Mike was in Dallas, there was a bit able to go and watch the process of not only the clubs that are being built, but also what he can do to personalize wedges, irons and things for the players on staff, was incredible and fantastic,” said Reed. “I am clearly a gearbox, so I see how it is done and seeing the background is great.
“As if they would send us clubs in Junior and College Golf. You could get a set of clubs and okay, you could change the shaft and grip and that is about. But then you suddenly see what can all be done.”
The Masters Champion 2018 said he trusted his short game a lot, so he and Taylor would spend hours perfecting his wedges to get the right sound and the feeling.
“We will deduct something, grind a little here, grind something away,” said Reed. “I’m going out and test it. He’s so, that doesn’t sound good.
“I had something like that:” Yes, it seems that it clicks here. ” And so he would sit there, we just know for hours, just a bit of a nice tune.
Once that had happened, Reed drove that Taylor would make a form of the form on which they settled, so the next time he needed a new wedge, they didn’t have to go through the entire test process again.
