How the opportunity began
The journey started with a LinkedIn post looking for a yoga teacher for a month-long retreat in Spain. The role included accommodation, access to a coworking space, a daily yoga class schedule and the flexibility to continue working remotely. At the time, I had only a vague understanding of what the term digital nomad really meant. However, the opportunity was a perfect fit for my professional background and personal curiosity, so I applied with an open mind. Although the role was initially filled, the opportunity presented itself again months later, this time for a two-week placement. I accepted it without hesitation.
Daily life on a Digital Nomad Retreat
Located along the beautiful coastline of the Costa Brava, the retreat offered a balanced rhythm between work, well-being and discovery. In addition to teaching daily yoga sessions and maintaining my day job, I took part in a variety of excursions, including a cultural tour of Girona, visits to Blanes and Tossa de Mar, and walking part of the Camino de Santiago. Yoga classes were held in a variety of settings, from coworking spaces and hotel rooftops to sunset beach sessions. Each location brought its own energy, keeping the experience fresh, grounding and highly rewarding.
Understanding digital nomad culture
Before this experience, the concept of digital nomadism felt abstract. Living it completely changed that. Digital nomads work remotely while traveling, value flexibility and autonomy, and prioritize community through shared experiences. They seamlessly combine productivity with adventure, proving that work and lifestyle don’t have to exist separately. Witnessing this way of life in action made it clear why digital nomadism has become a global movement.
