Earlier this year I highlighted the exciting changes technology is bringing to the hospitality sector, especially within the golf club industry.
By means of integrating advanced technology into golf club operationswe can unlock countless opportunities that significantly enhance our operations and improve the customer experience.
This integration is crucial to shaping the future of the golf industry.
To gain deeper insights, I contacted Fraser Marriott, head of golf at Speed of lightto discuss the benefits of golf club management software and the challenges the industry currently faces.
What is the current state of the golf club management software industry?
The current state of the golf management software industry is characterized by a continued trend of golf courses switching from older platforms and to more modern solutions, which are hampered by the outdated behemoths that have dominated this sector for years.
Where we are moving to and where they are towards more innovative cloud systemsand we are looking for the best of their kind companies.
And what I mean by that is it’s kind of a prevailing philosophy that we hear from operators combining specialized tools.
Teesheet, member communication, AI phone waiting listsand so on, to provide the best customer experience, right?
Ultimately they try attract and retain customersinstead of just buying from one supplier.
I think the state currently with an emphasis on the ‘best-of-breed’ approach. I think there’s a lot of great technology out there.
I think Lightspeed has been at the forefront of that kind of philosophy since day one, true we essentially find the best solutions for a club.
For example, we’ve done this with private clubs, and we now work at the forefront of the private sector Wow. So for me it’s really…

No company does things perfectly. And I think the industry understands that now. And they try to find the best possible solutions.
And that is achieved by one best-of-breed approachwhat entails finding one provider that can work with and meet the specific needs of each golf club.
That’s kind of my view on where we are now, just moving towards that best-of-breed approach move away from these kinds of archaic, gigantic, outdated systems that are not cloud-based.
Public and municipal clubs are gradually adopting. True or false?
I would say true. I would say yes, big. You know, we’re seeing a lot of, you know, these customers coming in, these partners that are working with us now from a municipal perspective.
They modernize for different reasons.
I would say the most important thing is to tie it back to what I just mentioned, from a best-of-breed approach, where software can now be integrated with city systems.
We do this through partners, via our API partners. These city systems can do that include accountingas well as online tee time bookings.
They can provide more in-depth reporting this ensures them supporting the requirements and needs of the provinces or municipalities they work for.
I guess we couldn’t do that before, right? I believe that cloud software, through APIs and partnerships, is now able to support the needs of any city.

I believe so are becoming increasingly common of a municipality perspective. We see one significant increase in the number of RFPs and the increased demand from that sector of the industry.
I think public courses must adapt. I really think that with the increased demand that you’ve seen, there’s some sort of post-COVID wave wave.
They really have to adapt to what Gen Z golfers, the new golfers, are looking for.
According to our state of golf report, 30% of Gen Z golfers agree that technology integration greatly improves their golf experience.
That is mainly due to increased online booking requirements, prepaymentand the convenience of not having to visit the store, something we as an industry must curb.
We must Find out how to get these new golfers in store and also follow that kind of older protocol to ensure those sales.
However, I think so the software is currently possible Order a bid on a course and a simpler booking process, which improves the golfing experience.
I believe public courses have recognized this and listened to customer feedback, and that’s why you should too consider a more advanced cloud-based golf club management software.

How widespread is the integration of artificial intelligence or machine learning for predictive analytics and IoT sensors in the golf club management software industry?
I think AI is at the forefront of the conversation. As you know, I think it’s in every headline. It’s in every kind of tech company that’s moving in that direction.
I believe the The integration of AI is starting to drive business decisionsbut it’s still in the very early stages of adoption from this side, especially in our industry.
I think that’s the most important thing modern systems are now capable of integrating unique datalike future demand patternswhich is huge optimization of the start time, historical customer behaviorand weather data.
And in turn we can do a more optimized price and revenue management solution.
This is possible with Lightspeed and through our partners, which is excellent.
And on If you look into that a little deeper, you can see that know your target group is more likely to result in this refill available inventory at IET times.
So you can also do last-minute business with our partners, such as Noteefy.
And then, AI-powered targeted marketing can deliver more income for clubs at lower costs. It’s all about maintaining that demand and increasing your occupancy rate.
And you know, Lightspeed is at the forefront of that battle right now. We do that with some great partners, like I said: Noteefy, CourseRev and Metolius.

And then the more internal solutions to ensure that we can respond to that demand, guarantee TG documents and better analyze the data that comes in.
You look at our tools, including our digital serviceswhich can help improve marketing and SEO, as well as our advanced reporting tools, such as business intelligence analytics.
We continue to innovate every day. I think AI is really leading the way and will be the next iteration of what golf looks like.
I believe we have to be cautious in some respects, but if we approach it innovatively and proactively, we will be ahead of the curve.
I believe that by doing this we can do that achieve better occupancy rates and higher profitability for all clubs.
Do you see a shift towards subscription models?
Absolute. I mean, the the entire industry is moving towards the SaaS type of model. I think if you listen to the operators and what they want, they want flexibility, faster innovation and lower initial costs.
Personally I believe that one of the most important axisThe advantage of SaaS is that it gives the operator powerwhat I’m thinking about in this context of utmost importance.
It holds every tech company accountable delivering innovation and customer support. In my opinion, customer support is the most important thing here.

This is where Lightspeed stands out. We are leading the way with systems that grow with the scale of the company, so we can guarantee that we can do just that always provide the highest level of support.
I think that’s important in SaaS. They pay for a service. We have to provide that service.
What I really like about SaaS is that we are holding ourselves and the sector accountablewhich means we are insured puts the operator first.

And if you tie it back to the AI conversation, then you can really dig deep using our digital services, like our question tools such as Noteefy, Metolius and CourseRev.
Suddenly you have a highly autonomous machine that can work for you and generate revenue.
By working with Lightspeed, you can really dig deeper into your data. It allows you to have a full scope of what your company does.
It can make your daily tasks run more smoothly, meaning your staff can too focus on creating a better customer experience.
What consolidations and partnerships do you expect in the sector?
This is a difficult question, I would say, because there is a significant amount of money invested in this sector.
They can see that golf is a thriving mecca. You know, a lot of private equity firms are entering the market.
I think what what we need to do is come together as a groupboth from a provider and software vendor point of view, as well as from an operator point of view, to really focus on partnerships.
I’m sorry, I use the best solutions all the time, but that’s really what we need to focus on here. We need to focus on putting the operator in his place.
Our priority must be to deliver the best solutions to these companies. I hope partnerships will lead this effort.
We need to get to know each other better, instead of just seeing each other as competitors, essentially cannibalizing each other’s businesses.
We have to work together, find the right partners, grow as a unit and make waves and put them in the best possible condition.
This is my call to all of you: know the rest of the industry, how can we all work better, and how can we offer our operators the best solutionrather than just trying to consolidate.
I think you know healthy competition is great, but you know, how can we ensure that we lift each other, and this industryinstead of trying to knock each other down and make everyone weaker.
