What is the best family car ever made? – Jalopnik

Listen, I know we all love sports cars. I love it too, but after driving some bona fide family cars early this year, like the Honda Passport, Polestar 4, Subaru Outback Wilderness, and Toyota Crown, I’ve really gained an appreciation for what goes into building a proper family car, and it got me thinking about today’s question.

I want to know what you all think is the best family car of all time. That’s right, always, which means you’re spoiled for choice. I want to know which family car you all think is head and shoulders above the rest. Maybe it’s the first modern family sedan or wagon of some kind. Maybe it’s the original minivan, or you’re someone who is smart and realizes that the best family car of all time is a modern car with the latest safety features designed to keep you and your kids alive in case you get into an accident. I know that won’t be your choice. Don’t worry.

To be honest, it’s not my choice either, because I’m going for the third generation Chrysler minivan. This is of course purely for nostalgic reasons. Growing up, my mother had two: a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country, which was involved in an accident during a family trip to Hershey Park, and its replacement, a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager Expresso in purple. That Plymouth became the first car I ever drove, and what a machine it was. For the time, these cars were incredibly luxurious; smooth, comfortable, quiet and reliable with their virtually bulletproof (but underwhelming) 3.3-liter V6 engines.

They also had a lot of space. With seating for seven and removable seats, my three siblings and I had no trouble climbing into these cars for the long, two-day trip from New Jersey to Disney World every summer. There was even enough room for the various stuffed animals and other necessities we had to bring with us. While these cars were far from perfect, they were certainly the best family cars ever to grace God’s green earth.

Now you can try to outdo my choice in this matter, but it’s basically pointless, although I encourage you to do so anyway.
