What I use when my stomach feels uncomfortable, tight or reactive

Sharing is caring!

If your stomach gets tight by noon and your jeans feel impossible by 3 p.m., you may not have imagined it.

If you’ve done “everything” and still feel like your gut is reacting to foods that used to be safe, you’re not alone.

And if you’re a high-achieving woman who doesn’t have time to be sick, but also doesn’t have the energy to persevere, I see you.

I’ve been there. For years I battled bloating, food confusion, and that awful “my stomach is mad at me” feeling that made me want to cut half my diet just to feel normal again.

What I have learned during my own journey of more than 20 years healing SIBO and IBS is this: your feeling is not broken, and you don’t need extremes to find relief.

The “off/tight/reactive” feeling: what is actually happening

When your stomach feels uncomfortable, tight, or reactive, there are usually three things going on beneath the surface.

Understanding these can help you tackle the root cause rather than just managing the symptoms.

A]Stress of the nervous system

Stress doesn’t just live in your head. It lives in your intestines.

When your nervous system is in overdriveslows down your intestinal motility.

Food stays out longer than it should. Gas is formed. You feel tight, uncomfortable and bloated even though you haven’t eaten anything ‘bad’.

Research shows that stress disrupts the gut-brain axis, which directly impacts digestion and can lead to symptoms such as bloating, cramps and altered bowel habits. [source]

B]Digestive delay

Sometimes the problem isn’t what you eat, but how well you break it down.

Low stomach acid, insufficient digestive enzymes, or poor bile flow can all contribute to that heavy, sluggish feeling. Food ferments instead of digesting properly, leading to gas, bloating and discomfort.

Studies indicate this supplementation with digestive enzymes may improve symptoms of bloating and gas in individuals with digestive insufficiency. [source]

C]Irritation of the intestinal wall

When your intestinal wall is inflamed or damaged, it becomes hypersensitive. Foods that never bothered you before suddenly feel ‘reactive’.

This is often due to increased intestinal permeability (often called leaky gut), which compromises the intestinal barrier and causes an inflammatory response. [source]

The good news? Your intestinal wall is remarkably resilient when given the right support.

Which I don’t do anymore

I panicked when my stomach didn’t feel good. I cut out 20 foods overnight, Googled symptoms at 2 a.m., and turned to extreme protocols that promised quick fixes.

[Spoiler: they didn’t work.]

I don’t do that anymore. This is why.

Eliminating 20 foods in one night: Restriction increases stress, and stress worsens digestion. It’s a vicious circle.

I don’t panic – Google symptoms: Dr. Google is not your friend when your stomach is tight and you’re already anxious.

I don’t jump to extreme protocols. Cleansing, fasting, and radical elimination diets may work for some people, but they are not sustainable and certainly not necessary for most gut problems.

What I do instead is simpler, gentler, and even sustainable.

If my stomach doesn’t feel good, I go back to the foundation.

I temporarily simplify my eating + regulate my stress. Finally, me [always] support my intestinal wall.

And I reach for it Soothe abdomen.

Tummy Soothe is a soothing formula that I designed specifically for times when the digestive system feels irritated or reactive. It’s not a magic solution, but it is a powerful supportive tool that helps soothe the intestinal lining when things feel inflamed or tender.

[This is the exact formula I use when my gut needs gentle support.]

Ingredient Information: What’s in Tummy Soothe

Let me walk you through the key ingredients and why they are important.

ImmunoLin (serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin)

ImmunoLin is a specialized form of immunoglobulin protein that works by binding to microbial components in the intestines, supporting immune balance and intestinal barrier function.

This is not your typical protein supplement; it contains more than 50% immunoglobulins (mainly IgG, with IgA and IgM) that survive digestion and reach the intestinal tract.

Research shows that serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin significantly promotes intestinal barrier integrity and reduces inflammatory markers such as TNF-α and CXCL-10, especially under stress conditions. [source]

Clinical studies show that it can improve symptoms in patients with chronic diarrhea, IBS-D and inflammatory bowel disease by supporting the intestinal barrier and reducing intestinal permeability. [source]

N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine (NAG)

NAG is an amino sugar that serves as a building block for glycosaminoglycans, which are essential for the formation of the protective mucus barrier in the intestine.

It supports the production of mucin, the gel-like substance that coats and protects your intestinal wall.

Studies show that NAG supplementation can strengthen intestinal barrier function by stimulating mucin synthesis and supporting tight junction formation in intestinal epithelial cells. [source]

Research shows that it can alleviate inflammation by strengthening the intestinal barrier and maintaining homeostasis of the gut microbiota. [source]

When I use it

I am no longer someone who takes supplements “just because”. Been there, done that.

I am strategic about what I use and when I use it.

That said, Tummy Soothe do come out to honor my feelings on a daily basic.

If you don’t want to use it daily, here are some PRIME times to use it:

During travel. Digestion always gets a little wonky when traveling, and Tummy Soothe makes sure everything stays comfortable.

When stress is high. When the nervous system is in overdrive, your gut feelings sense it. Tummy Soothe provides gentle support at such times.

After accidental exposure to food. If you accidentally eat something you don’t like, Tummy Soothe helps calm the reactivity.

When you feel that “tight by noon” feeling creeping in. You know that feeling. Tummy Soothe helps take the edge off.

During the intestinal building phases. If you are actively working on healing your gut, this should absolutely be part of your support routine.

Which it isn’t

Let me be very clear about what Tummy Soothe is and is not.

It is not a band-aid for ignoring the underlying causes. If your feelings are constantly reactive, there is something deeper going on that needs to be addressed. Tummy Soothe supports you while you do that work.

It’s not something you think about forever without evaluating the triggers. This is a tool, not a crutch. Use it strategically as you figure out what’s actually causing the irritation.

It is not intended to replace medical care. If you have severe symptoms or an active medical condition, work with a qualified healthcare provider.

How it fits into a Smart Gut strategy

Tummy Soothe is step one in my reactive bowel protocol, which looks like this:

Calm → Support the intestinal mucosa (this is where Tummy Soothe comes into the picture)

Reduce the input → Simplify eating temporarily to give your intestines a break

Regulate stress → Treat the nervous system component through breathing, exercise, or whatever works for you [I have written a TON of articles on this site to help with that!]

Observe patterns → Pay attention to what’s causing the reactivity so you can address it

This approach is based on both lived experiences and functional foundations. It’s not about extremes. It is about smart, sustainable support.

Who is this intended for?

Tummy Soothe can help if:

  • You feel reactive to foods that used to be safe
  • Your stomach feels tight or irritated, especially in the afternoon
  • You want gentle support without resorting to extreme protocols
  • You’ve tried “everything” and want something fundamental
  • You are working on healing your intestines and need support for the mucous membrane

DO NOT use if you have a severe beef/dairy allergy (Note: Most people with lactose intolerance or dairy sensitivity can tolerate SBI just fine, as it contains minimal lactose and casein)

Your intestines communicate with you

That tight, reactive feeling is trying to tell you something.

You don’t have to panic. You don’t have to cut half your diet overnight. And you definitely don’t need extreme protocols to feel better.

If you want to try the exact formula I use when things feel reactive, you can find this Belly soothing here.

Your intestines are resilient. Give it the right support and it will heal.
