Tyler Glasnow isn’t going anywhere.
Amid reports that the Dodgers are pursuing Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, Glasnow dispelled recent rumors that he could headline the potential blockbuster bid.
During an appearance Sunday on MLB Network Radio, the former right-handed All-Star acknowledged hearing the chatter but revealed that Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman personally assured him he was staying put.
āI had seen rumors that I was going to be traded for him, so I didn’t know what to believe,ā Glasnow said.
ā[But] I have spoken [Andrew Friedman] and the front office and they said, ‘No, you’re not going anywhere.’ So they told me I wouldn’t be traded and that I trusted them.ā
Perhaps the most striking tidbit to emerge from last week’s relatively mundane winter meetings was… ESPN report that the defending, back-to-back World Series champions were looking to bolster their rotation ā which had a 2.68 ERA over 104 postseason innings ā with the reigning, back-to-back AL Cy Young winner.
Glasnow, who has been dealing with injuries but just posted a 1.69 ERA with 25 strikeouts in six postseason appearances and remains under contract through 2028, was seen as a prime candidate to anchor the win ā and someone LA has reportedly included in trade talks.
āTyler Glasnow’s name has come up in conversations, and the Dodgers would not be opposed to moving him,ā ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez wrote in an article published on December 11. [his contract] worth it.ā
During the winter meetings, Tigers president Scott Harris revealed that Skubal ā who pitched to an AL-best 2.21 ERA with 241 strikeouts in 195 1/3 innings to earn his second straight Cy Young ā was not āuntouchable’after Detroit fell short in the AL Division Series.
Glasnow, a 32-year-old SoCal native, told MLB Network he hopes the Dodgers can lure him to LA.
āI think it would be sick if we went to get it,ā he said. āHe’s probably one of the most incredible pitchers I’ve ever seen.ā
The Dodgers possess a stockpile of potential trade assets, but will likely have to get creative to acquire the flame-throwing left-hander Detroit without Glasnow.
LA’s rotation is stacked as is, and also features Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Roki Sasaki and reigning World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The Dodgers remain aggressive as they look to continue to strengthen an already dynastic roster, recently signing former Mets closer Edwin Diaz to a three-year deal worth $69 million.
