What car never lived up to its potential? – Jalopnik

When designers and engineers go about building a car, they always have incredibly high expectations of what it will become. No one ever hopes to make something that is middle or even second best. They want to build the best car they can, hoping it fulfills all the potential they put into it. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen for some reason, and that idea brought me to today’s question.

I want to know which car you think never lived up to its potential. What car could have been great, but ended up falling apart completely? These are the kind of cars that promised a lot and, unfortunately for everyone, delivered very little. Building cars is very difficult to do, so making them as good as possible is an almost impossible task. Many cars have come close, but many more have fallen far behind.

Please note that I’m not asking you which cars didn’t meet your expectations or live up to the hype. We’ve already asked that, and I’m not interested in repeating it.

My choice for this question is actually a fairly new car on the market: the Volkswagen ID Buzz. From the outside it looks heavenly. It’s a wonderful throwback to the original VW bus while you’re not looking at cheesy and Boomer-ace-y. However, everything inside and out just isn’t good enough, and it could have been.

On the inside, the ID Buzz features the cheapest, crappiest, hardest plastic you’ll find this side of a city bus. Sure, it has nice leather and good technology with a higher trim, but you’re paying almost $70,000 for the pleasure of getting that equipment, which should just be standard. Below that, it’s a similarly crappy story. The range is limited to just 370 kilometers in the rear-wheel drive model and 372 kilometers with all-wheel drive. In this day and age, that’s just not good enough. I love Volkswagen and I know it has the technical strength to make good cars. That’s why I know the ID Buzz is the potential be good. It just isn’t, and that’s a damn shame.

In any case, you should all follow my lead and let us know below which cars you think never lived up to their potential. As always, I’m handing out cash prizes to those who explain why their choice missed the mark so far.
