What Bournemouth thought about Amorim’s system tweak revealed – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United decided to introduce a brand new system for their Premier League match against Bournemouth on Monday.

Ruben Amorim, who had so far refused to change his 3-4-3 system, opted to switch to a back four after trying out the new idea in training ahead of Monday’s meeting.

And while the change saw the attack sputter at times, the backline looked confused and it resulted in a highly entertaining 4-4 draw at Old Trafford.

Ideally, the adjustment would have caught the visitors off guard, but that was not the case as the news had leaked in the run-up to the match.

Amorim changed his system

United have launched an investigation to track down the latest mole in the squad after seeing the Cherries score at least three times at the Theater of Dreams for the third consecutive season.

After the match, Bournemouth skipper Adam Smith was asked about Amorim’s latest experiment, and he initially praised the change, calling it difficult to defend against.

“The move (switching from a back three to a back four) is very difficult to defend. Mason Mount comes in, drops deep, Dalot goes very high. Luke Shaw sometimes gets very high and wide. Cunha drops down.”

The twenty-time English league champions scored 24 shots, double that of the away team, and could have scored many more if not for his lax finishing.

What Adam Smith thought

However, the game resembled a boxing match, especially in the second half, as both sides traded blow after blow without hardly any resistance.

And Smith felt that while the attack has caused them problems, the Red Devils remain soft when it comes to the defensive side of things.

“On the other hand, you can really punish them on the counter. So maybe that’s why it was such a high-scoring game,” said The Daily Mail.

United have kept just one clean sheet all season and have conceded the most goals of the top 12 teams in the division.

It is clear that there is still a lot of work to be done for Amorim to get the balance right for his side’s next match against Aston Villa.
