West Ham United have reportedly held talks to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen TEAMtalk.
The Hammers decided to strengthen the last line of defense last summer by signing Mads Hermansen from Leicester City. However, he put in dismal performances in the first four Premier League matches, conceding 11 goals.
As a result, Alphonse Areola has regained his number 1 ranking and has performed impressively at times. However, he hasn’t consistently shown his best and has made a few high-profile mistakes.
The East London club are the worst defensive team in the Premier League so far this season, having scored 43 goals in 21 games.
So, TEAMtalk claim that Nuno Espirito Santo is not happy with his current goalkeeping options and wants to upgrade in this window. West Ham have identified Jorgensen as a serious option and have already held talks with Chelsea to find out more about the details of signing him.
The Dane played second fiddle to Robert Sanchez at Stamford Bridge; therefore, he is open to leaving to play regularly and develop his career.
However, Chelsea have no intention of weakening their squad mid-season as the West London club are still competing in every competition. West Ham will therefore have to launch a lucrative offer to convince Liam Rosenior’s side to cash in on him if they come to a concrete approach.
Jorgensen to West Ham
Jorgensen is valued at around £13 million Transfer market and has a contract until 2031. Therefore, Chelsea are in a strong position to demand a large fee if they are forced to sell him.
West Ham have been busy strengthening their squad this winter, giving Santo the necessary resources to turn the situation around in the second half of this season.
After Niclas Fullkrug joined AC Milan, the Hammers have revamped their frontline with the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Vicente.
Jorgensen, who stands at 6ft tall, plays comfortably from the back and is a solid shot-stopper. He is a talented player and could be a smart signing for West Ham if they buy him.
However, it will be interesting to see if Santo’s side ultimately manage to secure his service in January.
