The Governor of West Bengal and Minister President congratulate director Anuparna Roy for winning the coveted prize at the Venice Film Festival. Politicians from the state overload her with appreciation after the Bengal filmmaker from the village of Narayanpur in Parrulia Lauweren won at the International Film Festival.
“No Indian director for her has received this honor in this category. Her parents live in Kulti, with roots in the Junglema hall, in Rangaamati. I believe that her award -winning performance is a victory for the girls of our Bengal,” wrote President Mamata Banerjee on her social media handle.

The Bengali director wrote History with her victory over the prestigious Oizzonti Award for best director for function “Songs of Forgotten Trees” on Sunday (September 7, 2025). Mrs Banerjee said that Mrs. Roy’s victory is practical as a conquest of the world of Cinema in a worldwide stage.
In her acceptance speech, the director devoted the prize to her hometown and her country.
Governor CV Ananda Bose also congratulates Mrs. Roy for her prestigious prize and shared his best wishes on social media.
“Mrs. Roy brought Glory to her birthplace, Purulia and West Bengal, while he became the first Indian to win the prize,” said a post from the Jana Raj Bhavan Media Cell of West Bengal on Monday (September 8, 2025).
