Werder Bremen 0-3 Bayern Munich: Kane scores 500th career goal as Bundesliga leaders restore six points – Soccer News

Harry Kane scored the 500th goal of his professional career as Bayern Munich defeated Werden Bremen 3-0 at the Weserstadion.

The England captain helped himself to a brace, while Leon Goretzka was also on target as Vincent Kompany’s side restored their six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Kane broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when he fired home from the penalty spot after Niklas Stark had felled Lennart Karl in the penalty area.

The striker doubled his tally just three minutes later, whipping the ball from the edge of the penalty area past Mio Backhaus to reach the 500 mark for club and country.

Felix Agu was narrowly off target and Marco Grull headed against the post as the hosts looked for a way back into the match.

But after Backhaus denied Serge Gnabry, Bayern stopped the match 20 minutes from time, with Goretzka neatly coming in after Alphonso Davies’ cuts.

Data Debrief: 500, 300 and 100 all in one for Kane

With his brace, Kane has now scored 500 career goals for club and country, with 100 of those coming from the penalty spot.

The England captain’s penalty also represented his 300th goal in the five major European competitions.

Meanwhile, Kane has now been directly involved in eleven goals against Werder in the Bundesliga (eight goals, three assists), his most against any opponent (including eleven against Hoffenheim).

Second-placed Borussia Dortmund had closed the gap on Bayern to just three points after their 4-0 defeat to Mainz on Friday.

However, Bayern comfortably regained some breathing space after their 17th straight win against Werder.

As for Werder, they have now gone 12 Bundesliga games without a win, only going longer without a win during one top-flight season in 2012-13 (13 games).
