Weekend Reading: About the Silver Scream – Monevator

7 minutes, 27 seconds Read

What struck me this week.

WWere you here for the Great Crash of 2026? Huddled behind the couch? Or roast your short positions in the back of an Uber on the way to a Lambo?

[Lamb-OH, dear. It’s a car, not a quadruped. Eh? Yes I know we usually have roast dinner on a Sunday.]

No stock market crash. Don’t panic! Stocks continue to move in a Schrödinger bubble.

No, I’m talking about the Great Silver Crash of Friday January 30, 2026:

Down more than 30% at one point. That’s almost the entire Covid stock market crash in just one day for the ‘other’ precious metal.

Silver surfer

Gold and silver, of course, had been tearing apart for months; silver had gone virtually parabolic. (See the second graph in my links below.)

So it’s hardly unexpected to see a rise, even if – as usual – there doesn’t seem to be any particular reason why the price crashed from a ridiculously overbought position today, unlike a week ago.

[Yes dear, I know the man on CNBC said he knows. Why’s he on the telly then and not on his private island? And no I didn’t sell grannie’s silver spoons like you told me to.]

It is clear that Trump chooses a non-crazy one because the next chairman of the Federal Reserve must have been the catalyst for less paranoid people to dump their precious metals and bunker deposits.

But you don’t have to be George Soros to suspect that a lot of influence was involved to cause a massacre on this scale – and that the brutality indicates a lot of pressure.

Perhaps the crazy build-up to this dive was all down to a handful of hedges knights funds playing with each other? The retarded of the seven kingdoms have with it?

Paging Michael Lewis!

[No, MICHAEL Lewis dear, not John Lewis. Yes, him who wrote the film about Christian Bale.]

Have a nice weekend.
