He said the prospect of wearing the prestigious Baggy Green and contributing to the team’s success keeps him motivated. Starc dismissed rumors of his Test retirement, explaining that he hasn’t even had time to think about retirement.
“I obviously haven’t had a chance to think about it yet. I think putting on a baggy green is enough incentive to keep going. While I can still play a role in this group, and I feel I can contribute in important ways, I would like to continue to go out and empty the tank for the team,” Starc told SEN Cricket.
Even during the post-match press conference, the speedster talked about his life after T20I retirement and how it helps him stay fresh for Test cricket. He further stated that although he will not play in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, he will support the Kangaroos.
“I’m going to follow the guys in India, but I won’t miss getting on that plane either. Yeah, I mean, that’s part of the reason I gave away the T20 stuff, tried to extend my Test career and feel like I can get some opportunities, put some time back into my body. And that’s obviously paid off in this series. That’s not always the case, but I feel like on the last day of a five-Test series I felt in worse shape than in this series,” he claimed. Starc.

Thanks to his incredible Ashes run, Starc has also been shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2025. He is joined by West Indian all-rounder Justin Greaves and New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy.
Greaves had an incredible tour to New Zealand, scoring 283 runs at an average of 56.60 in three Tests, including an unbeaten 202* in Christchurch. While New Zealand pacer Duffy dominated the home series against West Indies, securing 23 scalps at an average of 15.43.
