Today is December 31 and that means the last day of the year has arrived: New Year’s Eve. We wish you a nice day and evening and especially a very happy New Year!

New Year’s Eve

On New Year’s Eve it is customary to celebrate with your loved ones, eat some extra luxury food (if there is a day to be luxurious, it is this one!) and wait until midnight, with its fireworks. For many years in a row we have been celebrating the New Year together with our good friends Lennart and Beata, who used to live within cycling distance of us, but now that they have moved to Spain, it is not so easy…

We thought about flying to Spain to keep our common New Year’s tradition going, but it was very expensive to fly over New Year’s, so we have to choose to meet our good friends at a different time.

Instead, we will celebrate the New Year at home on the houseboat, with a good dinner, which will be absolutely excellent. How come we already have pictures of a New Year’s meal? That’s because we ate this piece of venison in the middle of the day on Christmas Eve…

Peter looked in the refrigerator and discovered that we had the batter that was expired, but still smelled good. What would we do with it? He took roe out of the freezer and it turned out to be one Real delicious Christmas Eve lunch – worthy of a New Year’s Eve indeed!

How do you celebrate?

How do you celebrate the new year? Will it be a festive party or a ‘small’ dinner? Are you watching ‘The Countess and the Butler’? Do you stay up until midnight to watch fireworks? We hope that your New Year’s Eve will be nice, relaxed and fun, whether you celebrate it big or whether it is a simple evening at home on the TV couch!

Some thoughts on the New Year’s celebration…

Celebrating ‘the new year’ is something pleasant, which gives space to feel hope, think ‘new’ and try change. We like it! Then it matters less whether it is all celebrated with party and glamour, or whether it is a simple evening at home. Overall, we like the “castle to cabin” thing. Sometimes high, sometimes low… it’s not that important! The most important thing is health and relationships, that’s what matters in the long run!
