REPORT – The city of Seine-Saint-Denis has largely suffered from the image left by the 2005 riots. She has taken several initiatives to revitalize her businesses, most notably by hiring a center manager.

p class=”fig-paragraph”>Sabrina hesitated for a long time before opening her clothing store Lynakids in Montfermeil. In 2024, while she was thinking about the hypotheses for setting up her activity, this city of Seine-Saint-Denis, about ten kilometers east of Paris, did not attract her. The name is still marked by the 2005 riots, this wave of urban violence caused by the death of two teenagers in Clichy-sous-Bois and which has permanently damaged the city’s image. “I didn’t really want to be here at first,” recalls the resident of Chelles, south of Montfermeil. I said to myself: “Oh no! Not Montfermeil!”. And then, the “neighborhood dynamics” finally convinced her to hang her sign in black and white tones on the Place Notre-Dame des Anges. A decision she does not regret.
