Half of the team in Victoria, half in NSW … here is how producers make the block.

Producers: Julian Cress, David Barbour, Justin Sturzacker.

Cavalier Productions has produced seasons for 21 seasons The block for nine.

Julian Cress and David Barbour Leiden the production in all his refinement from plate to screen.

But while Cress supervises the build, usually on the ground in Victoria, Barbour supervises the post production of editing suites in Sydney.

“He has a team of really skilled producers who work with editors and their assistants who have to go through all the material and find all the good pieces,” explains Julian Cress.

“I think I have about 45 people on the ground when photographing the show, and he has around 75 people in the post. But that’s because we make 51 episodes.

“We send them thousands of hours of material and they have to make 51 great hours of television.”

Camera crews must always remain active on the city council. You never know when someone will crack while renovating.

“It is a difficult show to photograph in the field. Everyone has to work extremely long hours and always be at the top of their game. And yes, sometimes paint can look dry for a while, and then suddenly become really interesting. So our camera crews are very dedicated, and they are with us, some of them, you already know, more than a decade.

“Some of the best moments occur when you would not expect something to happen. But then it is. That is the renovating game.”

The Block Screens Sunday – Wednesday on nine.
