The future of Ravindra Jadeja in Odi Cricket came under doubt after the Star Rounder from India was omitted for the coming series of three games against Australia.
The decision of the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar has surprised many, given the consistent performance of Jadeja in recent years.
Jadeja, who played a key role in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 Triumph, was not picked for the series.
Main selector Ajit Agarkar explained that the call was pure strategic and was based on the team balance team.
“We cannot take two left -hand spinners to Australia. Jadeja is already in the schedule of things, but there is always competition for places. It is just a series of three games and we could not fit everyone,” said Agarkar.
With Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar is already part of the team, the selectors opted for a mix that better suited Australian conditions.
“We wanted variety in spin. Jadeja is still in our plans, but we had to choose based on conditions and team balance,” AGARKAR added.
The decision has raised eyebrows, because Jadeja remains one of the most reliable all -rounders in India. He was appointed player of the game in the recent test against West India for his century and four wickets.
In the Champions trophy he took five wickets and caused crucial breakthroughs in important competitions. On 36, Jadeja’s absence can mark the start of a transition phase for the ODI side of India.
With younger players such as Axar Patel and Washington Sundar who offer similar skills, competition for the place of the all -rounder is intensified.
However, Agarkar’s comments suggest that the door is not completely closed to the veteran. “He is a top artist and an excellent field player. It is not the end for him. He remains part of our long -term plans,” he clarified.
