Did you know that fashion trends are recycled every 20 years? And often new or recurring trends indicate some kind of social shift. Remember my wide leg sweatpants theory?! Today I have another deep dive into fashion history/trend for you… one that more people need to talk about.
Low-rise buildings are back
And we love it! So cute. But the return of this ’00s trend may not be as innocent as it seems. Remember what else was in style the last time there were low-rise jeans? Let me give you a hint.
Do you see it?
I suspected that the return of low-rise buildings is a signal that beauty standards have shifted again. I had a feeling it was correlated… So I went to Google Trends and typed in two of the most popular things people are talking about right now, just to see if there was a correlation.
And guess what I found?

Just as the low-rise trend has gained popularity, so has the interest in GLP-1s. If you’re thinking: no, no, that’s just a coincidence… I found more. As interest in Pilates has increased over the past five years, searches for ways to get a bigger butt have decreased.
The searches prove that leaner physiques are trending… again.
Are there fashion AND beauty standards?
We know fashion recycles itself, but it amazes me that we’re going back to the harmful body trends of the 2000s. It was only ten years ago that Kim K. literally broke the internet with her curvy physique and turned it into the IT body type. Today with the return from the USA Fashion Showit’s clear that thin is in.
My question
All of this makes me wonder: if fashion is a reflection of society, what does it say about us?
What do you think?
