Nissan looks at the Toyota 4runner and Ford Bronco with jealousy. Both vehicles are huge sellers and enormously profitable, but Nissan has no off-road SUV to compete in that price bracket. Executives told Engine Earlier this year they are working on an Xterra revival, and now we have a potential production date.

Automotive news Reports that Nissan, at a dealer conference in Las Vegas, confirmed that the new Xterra will be coming in 2028. Nissan also confirmed a new Infiniti Q50-Sedan at this conference with the 400 hp Twin-Turbo V-6 and six-speed gearbox manual transmission of the Z Sports Car. The American chairman Christian Meunier of Nissan told the 2,500 dealers present, “[w]e are laser -oriented on the product [and] We have just started. We have planned better and ensure that the right cars are in the right place. “

The Xterra, per Automotive newsis likely to get a kind of V-6 hybrid powertrain, possibly with a range extender that offers somewhat fully electric driving. The Toyota 4runner has an optional hybrid system, although it only offers a limited EV series, while Jeep has its 4xe plug-in hybrid system available on the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.

Nissan is planning to build the new Xterra in the same Canton, Mississippi, plant where it currently takes the border. It therefore seems likely that the two vehicles will use the same body-on-frame platform.

Nissan introduced the Xterra in 1999 as a stylish off-road companion of the Pathfinder SUV and Frontier. It received two generations for a 16-year-old run, with Nissan stopping the car in 2015. Since then, the market for off-road SUVs has grown, with the Toyota 4runner in particular strength to strength. Nissan’s only other body-on-frame SUV in America is the Armada, which is much larger and more expensive, and has recently received an off-road-oriented trim.

In April Nissan Americas Marketing Head, Vinay Shahani, told Motor1:

‘If I look around and see where other OEMs went into that space, I feel that it is our rightful place. [The Xterra] Is only an iconic vehicle, and when you add it to the line -up that we have today, it is a bit completed. ‘

Nissan tries a big comeback after a few years in the wilderness. After it was not melted with Honda earlier this year, Nissan went into the offensive and announced many new products. Soon it will have more hybrid models here in the US and the magazine will return as an affordable EV -Crossover.
