‘We are heartbroken’: Australian cycling mourns Paralympic gold medalist Paige Greco

Australian Paralympic gold medalist Paige Greco has died aged 28.
The paracyclist died at her home in Adelaide on Sunday after a “sudden medical episode”.
“Paige meant the world to us. Her kindness, her determination and her warmth touched our family every day,” Paige’s mother, Natalie Greco, said in a statement released by AusCycling on behalf of the family.
“She brought so much joy and pride to our lives, and the pain of her passing is something we will carry forever.

“While we are devastated by her loss, we are incredibly proud of the person she was and the way she represented Australia.

“As a family, we are deeply grateful for the support of so many people connected to Paige, including her teammates and friends. Paige cherished the connections she made through her sport, and we take comfort in knowing how widely she was loved.”

Greco was one of Australia’s most talented paracyclists and a history-making Paralympian.
She won Australia’s first gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and also broke the world record in the women’s 3000 meters C1–3 individual pursuit.
She added bronze medals in the women’s C1–3 road race and time trial, cementing her status as a world-class competitor on both the track and road.

Greco claimed multiple World Championship and World Championship medals during her career, including bronze at the 2025 Road Race World Championship, and consistently helped raise the level of paracycling on the international stage.

Cycling community in mourning

AusCycling CEO Marne Fechner said: “We are heartbroken by the tragic news of Paige’s death. Paige was an extraordinary athlete who achieved outstanding performances at the highest level of our sport. Much more than that, she touched the lives of everyone around her with her positive spirit and courageous outlook.”
Paralympics Australia CEO Cameron Murray said Greco was an “extraordinary athlete” and a “remarkable person” and her death was devastating.
“We extend our deepest condolences to Paige’s loved ones and those closest to her. The sadness felt today at the Paralympic Games in Australia is a reflection of the tremendous appreciation she received.”
