India emerged victorious in the 2025 Women’s World Cup final against South Africa at the DR on Sunday, November 2. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai, ending the long wait for the coveted title.
After entering the ceremonial stage to receive the ODI World Cup trophy from ICC Chairman Jay Shah, Harmanpreet Kaur tried to touch his feet but the ex-BCCI secretary refused out of respect for the Indian captain. He leaned over and shook his head, preventing the Indian skipper from doing so.

Shah was present along with many other distinguished guests from cricket and other fields. Former Indian captains Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar were also present at the monumental event in Indian cricket.
After falling short in the 2005 and 2017 finals, India were desperate for silverware when they faced the Proteas on Sunday. The Women in Blue did not win the toss and were invited by Laura Wolvaardt to bat first.
Shafali Verma, who came into the side midway through the tournament as an injury replacement for Pratika Rawal, hit a career-high 87 off 78 balls, while Deepti Sharma made a run-a-ball 58 to help India post 298/7.
In reply, Wolvaardt played brilliantly and scored a 98-ball 101. However, her fellow batters could not provide her with the kind of support she would have wanted. Deepti Sharma wreaked havoc with her accurate display of off-spin bowling and accounted for five wickets. South Africa were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs and lost the match by 52 runs.
