The left-hander received the award on Thursday, December 25, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. He would also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the event. Suryavanshi skipped the second round of Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy due to the felicitation ceremony.
Talking about the Prime Minister’s National Child Award, it is India’s highest civilian award given to children between the ages of five and eighteen. The award is given to people for achievements in various categories such as sports, science and technology, social service, innovation, arts and culture, etc. While receiving the award in front of a packed house, the announcer highlighted how Suryavanshi was the youngest cricketer to play the IPL and score a ton in its 18-season history so far.
Suryavanshi was recently part of the Indian squad for the U19 Asia Cup. He registered 261 runs in five matches with an explosive strike rate of 182.51. Suryavanshi could not put together a substantial innings in the top clash in the final which India ultimately lost in Dubai recently. However, he has achieved a record-breaking century in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
For the unversed, Suryavanshi received this honor after a remarkable performance earlier down the road. He collected 190 off 84 against Arunachal Pradesh in a knock that included 16 fours and 15 sixes. His innings was crucial as Bihar posted a mammoth 574 in their 50-over quota. He also surpassed South Africa’s AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket with the knock.
