Rohit Sharma showed his protective side off the field during a practice session at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Friday.
A video that has gone viral shows the former India captain shouting at security personnel for forcibly restraining a child who tried to approach him. Rohit, who was packing his equipment after training, instructed them to let the boy meet him.
Targeted training ahead of the ODIs in Australia
Rohit was back in full swing at Shivaji Park, preparing for the upcoming three-match ODI series in Australia, which starts on October 19.
Training alongside former teammates Abhishek Nayar and Dhawal Kulkarni, he faced rapid deliveries in rigorous net sessions lasting almost two hours.
Despite recently being replaced as India’s ODI captain by Shubman Gill, Rohit’s dedication is evident. He worked on controlled shots, footwork and defensive movements, focusing on adapting to Australia’s pace-friendly conditions.
Local players, including young Mumbai batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi, also hit the nets and observed his session.
The 38-year-old last played for India in the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in February, which led the team to a historic title win.
With India’s white-ball setup evolving, the Australian tour offers Rohit an opportunity to reaffirm his value in the side.
Although Rohit and fellow veteran Virat Kohli have moved away from longer formats, their presence in the limited-overs side remains vital.
