[Watch] Record-breaking spell: Arshad Khan makes history with best-ever tournament marks in SMAT

Arshad Khan gave Madhya Pradesh a dream spell as he took 6 wickets for just 9 runs in 4 overs to set a new Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy record in Kolkata. His left-arm swing tore through Chandigarh and changed the match within minutes.

His effort went past the previous best of 6 for 13 by T Ravi Teja and Arzan Nagwaswalla. It also beat DS Punia’s 6 for 14. The morning offered some exercise, but Arshad used it much better than anyone expected.

He struck with the new ball and removed both openers Arjun Azad and captain Shivam Bhambri for ducks. Chandigarh never recovered from that start. He added Nikhil Thakur’s wicket soon after and gave MP complete control.

He came back towards the end and finished the job with three more wickets in the 19th over. His numbers now top the SMAT record list, a big moment in the 2025 to 2026 season.

Match changes MP’s side

Asked to bat, Chandigarh reached just 134. Manan Vohra tried to keep things steady with 52 off 43 balls but the pressure never let up. Kumar Kartikeya and Rahul Batham picked one wicket each as MP kept the score under control.

The chase did not go smoothly at first. MP lost two early wickets and Chandigarh hoped to fight back. But Harsh Gawli and Harpreet Singh put on a calm and smart 105 run stand. They looked for holes, found quick singles and slowly took the game away.

Gawli remained till the end with an unbeaten 74 off 40 balls. His knock brought MP home with seven wickets in hand and six overs remaining. It was a strong finish after a shaky start.
