The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to take a final call on Pakistan’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup later today. According to reports, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi will meet Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif after which the government is likely to make the final call for participation.

The ICC has rejected a request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to move Bangladesh’s matches outside India. Following that decision, Bangladesh was excluded from the upcoming tournament. The development has led to increasing speculation that Pakistan would also boycott the global tournament.

Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at 6 pm where the issue is expected to be discussed in detail. The outcome of this meeting is likely to determine whether Pakistan will participate in the tournament, leaving the situation uncertain until an official announcement is made.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to decide today on the national team’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup,” sources told Geo News on Sunday.

PCB keeps Plan B ready for T20 World Cup 2026

Mohsin Naqvi had already met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on January 26. The board is also yet to unveil the Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 jersey, which was earlier postponed due to unavoidable reasons.

At the same time, the circuit board has prepared a backup option. If Pakistan decides not to participate in the World Cup, a four-team domestic tournament will be organized in Lahore.

The event will feature players from the Pakistan senior team, Pakistan Shaheens, and the Under-19 setup, all split into four teams to ensure competitive cricket at home.

Pakistan’s 2026 T20 World Cup participation uncertain

Bangladesh was replaced by Scotland after refusing to travel to India due to rising tensions. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to skip the tournament and even canceled the planned launch of Pakistan’s World Cup jersey, stating that no final decision had been made yet.

In a statement related to the series against Australia, the board mentioned that one of their pacers was released as he was not part of the Pakistan T20 World Cup squad. The message was later deleted, but it strongly hinted at Pakistan’s plans.

Reports indicate that Pakistan will travel to Sri Lanka on February 2. They will also play a warm-up match against Ireland at the Sinhalese Sports Club two days later. The Salman Ali Agha-led team will play all their matches, including the knockouts, in Sri Lanka.
