It was a great tournament for the Kiwis as they successfully reached the final of the ICC tournament. They defeated South Africa, the tournament’s only undefeated team, in the semi-finals at the Eden Gardens, setting up a match against India on March 8.
“We were outplayed by a good team,” Mitchell Santner reflects after the defeat
New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner opened after his side’s loss against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. He was honest in his assessment and thanked the team for putting up a great fight throughout the tournament.
“Yes, first of all, that’s it, I think I’m proud of the boys for getting this far. Obviously we had some challenges throughout the tournament, but you know, at every stage we came through and put on a good show. Obviously tonight we were outmatched by a very good team in front of a great crowd. So yes, but I think we’re proud of the boys,” he said in a post-match presentation.
“Yes, I mean, most of the matches we play, it’s always a great crowd and to see a big sea of āāblue there was… obviously we’re not the home favorites, but yes, credit to India for winning a title at home, it always comes with a lot of pressure. And I think SKY and the boys must be beautiful… very, very proud of their work,” he concluded.
