Trainer Glenn Stevenson claimed his third Devonport Cup win in a row… the only difference in the series of hat-trick results was that the Stevenson winner this time was the $7.50 chance Asva, as opposed to Ashy Boy, Stevenson’s previous back-to-back Devonport Cup winner.

But Ashy Boy still had a say and helped Stevenson land the big racing quinella.
The fifty-two race veteran was there and he looked a possible winner in the last 100 meters before he was hit late by Asva, who flew across the finish line as the widest runner on the track.
The winning margin was 0.30 lengths.
The Devonport Cup continued in good form for jockey Kelvin Sanderson, with the Cup giving Sanderson a double on the day (he won earlier in the day aboard the Trent Wells-trained Gladding) … and this double came courtesy of the three winners Sanderson rode at the previous meeting in Hobart, including victories in the $125,000 Tasmanian Guineas with the $1.60 favorite Mazzini and aboard the $1.35 favorite Durazzo in the $125,000 The Inevitable Stakes…both runners are trained by Barry Campbell.
Sanderson’s third winner in Hobart was the same Asva, who would go to the land of the Devonport Cup, in which the $3.90 favorite Don’t Give Up finished unplaced in midfield, while the $4.40 second favorite Flossing, who Craig Newitt was looking for a tenth Devonport Cup victory, finished one behind.
Newitt had ridden Ashy Boy to those two Devonport Cup victories.
