Notably, the attacking Indian batsman has been spending a lot of time in the domestic circuit amid a break from international action as he only plays T20Is for the Men in Blue. He was the leader of Punjab in the ongoing struggle Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26which took them to the quarter-finals. The top batsman scored 86 runs and took three wickets for Punjab.

At the international level, Abhishek has already made his place in the record books. Since his T20I debut in 2024, he has scored several big scores and owns India’s highest individual T20I score of 135 off 54 balls against England. That innings helped him rise to the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings with 931 runs, a historic achievement that underlines his impact in the shortest format.

The left-hander’s next T20I assignment will be a five-match series against New Zealand, starting from January 21 in Nagpur. With the T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, it will be crucial for the left-handed opener to maintain his form and help India defend their title. The Amritsar native will back himself to live up to the expectations of the Indian team and millions of fans.
