Warsaw’s Stadium Narodowy organizes Ladies Champions League final in 2027

The UEFA Executive Committee Today has decided to organize the Women’s Champions League final of 2027 on the 56,826 capacity Stadium Narodowy in Warsaw.

Warsaw saw the competition of Barcelona, Basel and Cardiff to become the first city in the former Eastern Bloc to organize a one-off UEFA Women’s Champions League final, the 27th in the history of the competition. Poland also offers to host UEFA -Dames -Deuro in 2029. It is still to consider whether this prize is a positive sign for that decision in December or a way to make it easier for UEFA to go somewhere else.

The National team of Poland has written history this summer by qualifying to play with their very first UEFA ladies-Euro. Polish Fa President Cezary Kulesza said the price was proof of the dedication of his country to the women’s game. “I am pleased that UEFA has put his confidence in us again. During the previous term, the development of women’s football was one of our priorities. This year we organized the U19 Ladies European Championship in the Podkarpacie region. Next year we will organize the U20 World Championship.”

“We also submitted an application to organize the Senior Women’s Euro in 2029. Events such as these contribute enormously to the further promotion of women’s football. I want to thank the management of the PGE Narodowy Stadium, because the example organization of earlier events certainly increased our chances of reaching the Champions League -Final.”

UEFA invited his members’ associations for the first time to raise candidates to organize the final of 2026 and 2027 Women’s Champions League in July 2023. Germany suggested three candidate cities – Gelsenkirchen, Munich and Stuttgart – in addition to interest in interest of Glasgow’s Hampden Park and Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadium.

The decision about the hosts of the 2027 final has already been delayed twice. Initially as followed that it was determined in May 2024, the process had to be reopened because Stuttgart could not be considered because of the fact that another German city. Frankfurt, had already been given the right to organize the 2027 Europa League final of 2027. Oslo was selected to organize the final of 2026.

At that stage, Barcelona Camp Nou entered the ring of 105,000 capacity alongside Basle’s St. Jakob-Park, Cardiff’s 73,931 capacity Principity Stadium and Warsaw’s Stadium Narodowy. Cardiff had previously organized the UEFA Women’s Champions League final of 2017 in the smaller Cardiff City Stadium. Basle organized the final of the UEFA ladies -this summer.

The price would then be made in May 2025, but again it was postponed with UEFA who quoted “operational reasons”. This allowed Barcelona more time to complete the first phase of renovations in their Camp Nou Stadium and to ensure that the land was closer to it to play games before the decision was finally taken by UEFA.

Camp Nou is currently being renovated and has not organized a competition in more than two years. Once completed, it has the largest capacity of every football stadium in Europe and the third largest in the world after the Rungrado 1st of May Stadium in Pyongyang and the Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. It currently has the world record rise for a women’s club game and a showpiece UEFA Women’s Champions League final has perhaps attracted the first six-digit audience in the competition.

The FC Barcelona men’s team would start playing in the partially completed stadium at the start of this season. However, delays for the construction have led to this being reduced indefinitely. Ironically, they are now playing their first home game from La Liga of the season this weekend in their Women’s Team Home Ground, the 6000-capacity Estadi Johan Cruyff.

“The Polish Football Association has earned a lot of confidence from the European football federation,” says łukasz Wachowski, secretary -general of the Polish football club. “This is crucial because every such event strengthens our position and increases the opportunities to organize similar events in the future. It is worth noting that we won the competition on this occasion, for example against the legendary Camp Nou.”

The 2027 competition could set a new record of presence for a UEFA Women’s Champions League final. In 2024, 50,827 people saw the final between FC Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais in Bilbao. Warsaw’s Stadium Narodowy, built on time for the European Championship for Heren in 2012, has previously also organized the 2015 Men Europa League -Final EN 2021 UEFA Super Cup.
