Warriors win their fourth straight on the road at Brown

The Warriors extended their winning streak to four games on Saturday night with a 3-2 victory over Brown.

Merrimack found himself chasing the game just 46 seconds later, surrendering a rebound goal Ryan St. Louisbut the response was measured and controlled. Justin Gillback in the lineup after missing Monday’s game with an injury, tied the score late in the first period.

It was the second straight game in which the Warriors had to rally from an early deficit, following a similar start earlier in the week against Vermont.

“I think that experience really helped us,” Merrimack coach said Scott Borek said. “There was no panic on our bench. It was one goal: we knew we just had to get going. I really liked the way we responded to that situation.”

Ty Daneault put the Warriors ahead midway through the second period, but St. Louis struck again late in the frame, sending the teams into intermission tied.

The difference came on the power play in the third. Nick Pierre scored his 10th goal of the season midway through the period, setting up the eventual match winner.

“We got some light in the second period, but I was proud of the way we fought through some things in this game,” Borek said. “We had a very strong third period.”

The Warriors are on hiatus until next Saturday, when they travel to Holy Cross with a chance to extend the streak to five games and get their overall record back to the .500 mark.

— The Warriors generated 3.5 expected goals in the game, their highest total since Oct. 25 against Long Island (4.3).

— Merrimack went 1-for-2 on the power play, lifting the unit to 23.6 percent on the season, good for 14th nationally.

– The Warriors’ penalty kill was a perfect 2-for-2 and improved to 83.3 percent on the year, ranking them 22nd in the country.

Justin Gill Merrimack led at the faceoff dot, going 10-8.

Seamus Powell paced the Warriors with eight shot attempts.
