The Golden State Warriors are evaluating options on the trade market to address rim protection as the 2025-26 season nears its midpoint. With a 13-15 record, the front office is prioritizing interior defense and vertical spacing to stabilize lineups around the run-heavy offense.
RealGM reports this that NBA insider Chris Haynes identified three centers on Golden State’s target list. Haynes said the Warriors are focused on “bringing in a rim-running, block-shot defenseman” and are “really serious” about improving the viability of the championship.
The names linked to the Warriors include Daniel Gafford of the Dallas Mavericks, Nic Claxton of the Brooklyn Nets and Robert Williams III of the Portland Trail Blazers. All three fit the defensive profile that Golden State has consistently lacked this season.
Golden State’s current roster relies heavily on the offensive creation of Stephen Curry, who is averaging 28.8 points in 31.4 minutes. The team is low on shot blocking outside of the rotating bigs, with limited deterrence at the rim when Draymond Green is pulled away from the paint.
Gafford has emerged as a productive interior finisher in Dallas despite a smaller role. He is averaging 8.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 21.9 minutes, providing vertical spacing in addition to shot suppression without high usage requirements.
Claxton remains Brooklyn’s defensive anchor and a high-mobility center capable of switching and protecting the basket. He posts 13.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.4 blocks while shooting efficiently inside, a profile that fits Golden State’s read-and-react system.
Williams uses a different risk-reward calculation due to its durability history, but its impact on the field remains clear. In limited minutes with Portland, he is averaging 1.5 blocks in 15.6 minutes while maintaining strong rebounding numbers and defensive positioning.
