Claims of bias or lack of balance around the center -East that the ABC complaints of the Middle East reports, but Ombudsman also points to an increase in the e -mail campaigns of activist e -mail.
ABC News Online has attracted the most complaints from the public in the 12 months of July 2025 – June 2024, according to the ABC Ombudsman report.
1227 complaints were received. 50% was accusations of bias and 41% were claims of accuracy. More than a third (36%) was in connection with the conflicts in the middle.

General ABC received 18,163 written complaints in the financial year 2024-25, a decrease of 26% of 24,700 last year and lower than an average of 5 years of 22,302.
The vast majority were general complaints (broad concerns, such as personal taste, program planning and operational matters, including technical glitches and the use of personal social media by ABC staff) with 4,192 with regard to specific ABC content and categorized as content complaints.
Content complaints have fallen compared to the 5-year highlight of 7,041 registered last year, due to concerns about the coverage of the conflicts in the Middle East.
War and conflicts in the middle, however, remained the most complained about the subject, but these complaints have fallen: from 49% (4,154) content issues to 26% (1,288). Most complaints (65%) with regard to the Middle East were claims of bias or lack of balance (843), with 50% (422) broadly categorized as a pro-palestine and 45% (378) in general as pro-Israel. The balance, 5% (43), claimed other forms of bias (eg pro-us, anti-greens).
Although seductive to suggest that concern is expressed in rough equality between support for Palestine or Israel, the Ombudsman found that statistics are more a reflection of a growing and organized expression of Public Bias.
Mainly concerns arise from interviews with controversial guests, from unfolding news item that is seen as a broader context and analysis that deviates from the firmly detained views of some in the audience. Complaints often express serious dissatisfaction with a news item, without considering relevant, broader coverage. ABC’s critical investigation of a diversity of perspectives on multiple platforms is sometimes lost for a public member who is convinced of an ABC agenda in one way or another.
According to the Ombudsman, the ABC does not always have good, but there have been few in considering the extensive coverage provided via multiple channels.
Other topics that have submitted a considerable number of complaints in the ABC include sex, sex and gender identity, international war and politics and the federal elections.
Bias, followed by inaccuracy, offensive content and unfair treatment, are the most complained about categories.
Although most complaints (84%) resulted in findings of no violation of editorial standards, 412 complaints problems were solved (where the ABC took a form of corrective action) and 56 resulted in a violation.
The Ombudsman also noted that complaints campaigns continue to grow with the help of artificial intelligence and various organizations that support activist Email campaigns.
